There are two main types of hearing aids:
Analog hearing aids convert sounds into electrical signals. The wearer can adjust them to make the sound louder, softer, clearer, or to eliminate certain sounds. They’re the most common because they’re the ideal type of hearing aid for people with hearing loss.
Digital hearing aids are often called “smart hearing aids.” They are more expensive than analog hearing aids. Digital hearing aids can collect and store data about sounds and surroundings. This data can be used to improve the hearing aid’s ability to make sounds louder. They are also good for improving speech understanding.
There are different styles of hearing aids. Below are some of the common ones.
The BTE style is the most common. It is worn in or behind the ear with a small tube that connects them to the earpiece. BTEs are usually used to help people with mild to moderate hearing loss. They have batteries that last anywhere from one to multiple days.
ITE hearing aids are similar to BTEs, except they are worn in the ear canal. These are usually used for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. They have batteries that last anywhere from one to multiple days. Unlike BTEs, these are not visible.
ITC hearing aids are the smallest hearing aids you can get. They fit entirely in the ear canal and offer a discreet, invisible look. They are often used to help people with mild to moderate hearing loss. They have batteries that last anywhere from one to multiple days.
